International Training Course on
Global Navigation Satellite Systems and Location Based Services

Ile-Ife (Nigeria), 4th to 29th October, 2010

In a brief but well attended ceremony, the International Course on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) was declared open with theme "The role of GNSS in meeting African Sustainable Development Challenges".

The training organized by ARCSSTEE in conjunction with RECTAS, OAU Ile Ife, FUT - Akure and NASRDA actually started on the 4th of October and will run through the 29th of October 2010, at the African Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in English (ARCSSTE-E).

In a concise and all encompassing speech, the Executive Director of ARCSSTEE, Dr. Joseph Akinyede remarked that the Training Course will benefit from and build upon the experiences of the previous courses on GNSS that have been supported by the Office. He opined that the Course will aim at establishing or strengthening networks in the region for the exchange of information.

In his lecture titled, "Applications of GNSS" Dr. Ahmed Balogun remphasized on the importance of GNSS to our immediate environment stating its benefits.

Goodwill messages were received from representatives of the Director of RECTAS and Vice Chancellor OAU, Ile Ife.
