Welcome Mission Statement The Centre has as its main goal the development of skills and knowledge of university educators, research and applications scientists, and others through rigorous theory, research, applications, field exercises and pilot projects in those aspects of space science and technology that can enhance socio-economic development in each country Background and Mandate The United Nations General Assembly (UN-GA), in its resolutions 45/72 of 11 December 1990, endorsed the recommendation of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space that “the United Nations should lead, with the active support of its specialized agencies and other international organizations, an international effort to establish Regional Centres for Space Science and Technology Education”, in developing nations. Under the auspices of the United Nations, through its Office for Outer Space Affairs (UN-OOSA), four Regional Centres for Space Science and Technology Education were established in the regions that correspond to the United Nations Economic Commissions for Africa (Morocco, Nigeria), Asia and the Pacific (India), and Latin America and the Caribbean (Brazil and Mexico).
